The Story of My Life - Seeing Yourself in the Life of Moses

DAY 14 OF 15

What Is His Name?

Invitation to SELAH

Before you spend time face-to-face with God today, take some time to SELAH (Stop, Exhale, Lean In, Ask & Hear).

Reflect

Have you ever met someone for the first time and forgotten their name only seconds after they introduced themselves? Yikes! The struggle is real! Knowing someone’s name is important, especially if you want to be working with them and want other people to know that you know them. Moses needed to know God’s name. He wasn’t content with only having some informal relationship with God. It was time to make it official, real, and formal.

Can you remember a time when someone forgot your name because they never took the time to really get to know you? Your name is important to you. Your name only begins to scratch the surface of who you are. Back in Biblical times though, your name became a description of who you were. So your name was more than just what someone might call you—it was ultimately your identity. In the Bible, God goes by many names, but in tomorrow’s devotional we’ll discover what God’s most personal name is.

Respond

Grab a journal and write some of the names you refer to God as (Friend, Father, Savior, Helper etc.).

Additional Reading Suggestions:

Read Isaiah 9:6-7 and Philippians 2:9.
