DAY 22 OF 30

The Right Thing at the Wrong Time?

Moses was likely wrong for murdering the Egyptian who abused his Hebrew brothers. His act of vengeance may seem like justice, and maybe it only feels wrong because he got caught. It may seem like the right thing at the wrong time is still right, but it's not. However, God doesn't waste anything and used this opportunity to refine Moses into one of the greatest leaders ever.

It seemed like Pharaoh knew of the murder, so Moses fled in fear to the desert of Midian. He escaped the intended punishment of his crime; then, he powerfully met God. When Moses arrived in Midian, he immediately stepped into his divine call as a deliverer. While there, he learned how to live and thrive in harsh conditions for forty years. In the desert, a place of lack, God chose to provide for Moses and train him for his crucial assignment.

Whether Moses's actions were right or wrong, he ended up exactly where God wanted him. God used every part of the situation for his purpose. The first task of Moses's training was to rescue a group of women from angry shepherds, but that was just the beginning. God equipped Moses there for his future leadership role as Israel's deliverer. Likewise, when we are afraid and up against a dead end, we can trust God to make the best of any situation. Jesus is the deliverer we need to rescue us today, and he desires the right thing at the right time for each of us.

Question: Right or wrong, God can use any situation, no matter the consequence. Have you ever considered that God allows consequential situations because he wants to provide and equip you for a future assignment?

Prayer: God's word says, "those who look to the Lord are radiant, and their faces are never covered with shame" (Psalm 34:5). Look to the Lord and ask him for the courage to step into hard places and receive the strength he is willing to give you for the journey through that place.
