Grace

Having grace with your children is critical.

Colossians 4:6 gives great advice on how you can season your speech with salt so that you will know how to respond in certain situations.

Let’s get real for a second. When one of your kids screws up something royally at the house, it’s hard to not blow a gasket. However, just as you are a sinner that is saved by grace, so are your children. There is nothing you can do to earn God’s salvation.

As many times as you have messed up in your life, He still welcomes you with open arms. Keep that in mind the next time that a mistake happens with your kids. And when mistakes happen, they can be opportunities to have conversations with your children about consequences of sin and forgiveness. Grace is one of the hardest concepts for men to understand and put into practice. A leader is always striving to extend grace to those in his family, especially the kids.

Question to Consider

  1. What reaction do your kids expect when something bad happens?
  2. Do you find it harder to extend grace to your kids than your wife, coworker, or stranger? Why?
  3. What actions will you commit to today to be the leader God intends you to be?
