DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3 - I WAS A STRANGER AND YOU INVITED ME INTO YOUR HOME

Jesus used the metaphor of being a stranger to emphasize the importance of hospitality and love toward others. By stating, "I was a stranger, and you invited me in," Jesus teaches us that we should not only provide for the physical needs of those in need but also welcome them into our lives with open arms.

Hospitality has deep roots in biblical teachings. In the Old Testament, Abraham and Sarah exemplified this virtue by welcoming three strangers into their tent and providing them with a meal. Little did they know that these strangers were heavenly messengers. Their act of kindness and hospitality demonstrated their faith and willingness to serve God.

In the New Testament, Jesus expanded upon this principle of hospitality and applied it to the lives of his followers. He encouraged them to show kindness and generosity to marginalized people, including strangers. Inviting strangers into our homes demonstrates our love for them, showing they are valued and accepted as part of our community.

This verse also reminds us that our acts of compassion towards strangers are ultimately acts of service to Christ himself. Jesus identifies with those in need, and when we extend hospitality, we minister to him directly. Inviting strangers into our homes creates an environment of love and care, reflecting God's heart for all people.

Moreover, welcoming strangers aligns with the broader biblical theme of justice and righteousness. It challenges societal norms and prejudices by breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity. Inviting strangers in challenges the divisions and prejudices that separate people, fostering unity and harmony.

Matthew 25:35-36 urges us to invite strangers into our homes and extend hospitality to those in need. It teaches us to go beyond meeting physical needs and to embrace others with love and acceptance. This verse motivates us to emulate the example set by Jesus, who identified himself with the marginalized and calls us to serve him through acts of compassion. By welcoming strangers, we promote justice, unity, and righteousness in our communities. Let us remember these words and strive to live out the spirit of hospitality, for in doing so, we serve not only those in need but also our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
