In verse 17 of this chapter, James reminds us of a great story of Elijah. Now for some very quick historical context, Elijah was a prophet in Israel under King Ahab who did not follow in God’s ways. In fact this king was so wicked, he worshiped the evil god of Baal. The prophet Elijah challenges their god to a test of miracles. One of the tests is to see who can make fire and the other is to see who can make rain. Spoiler alert, the 450 Baal priests try anything and everything to no avail, whereas Elijah simply prays and God shows off his mighty power.
