DAY 1 OF 10

God of Hope

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. ROMANS 15:13 NLT

It may be a financial reversal, or a temptation you've given in to, or a disappointment in relationships. On those days when life delivers a sucker punch to your soul and you wonder if you can ever be hopeful again, God delivers a sucker punch to your hopelessness. “Remember Me, the God of hope!”

Our source of hope is the Creator of hope, not the twists and turns of life. You can count on life to ambush you when you least expect it, but God is waiting with an overflowing measure of hope at the perfect time. It is for us to believe Him and receive this hope.

As we trust in Him, He fills us with joy and peace. This is not because our life circumstances have changed; it is because our faithful God never changes and He overwhelms us with His presence. It may not necessarily be a feeling, but there is an unmistakable joy and peace resulting in hope for our soul.

Our mistake is putting our hope in the wrong place: in a promotion at work, in a gift of healing, in an apology from our spouse. We will no doubt be surprised one day to learn that God moved some of the puzzle pieces around to teach us not to depend on those solutions but rather to depend solely on Him. This is not cruelty on His part, but rather a saving grace!

PRAYER:

Father, forgive me for trying to solve my hopelessness by artificial means instead of being sustained by Your faithful arms. Rescue me from the hopelessness of life and fill me once again with Your joy, peace, and abiding hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
