Dear God, When Is It My Turn?Sample
Day 3: Wait, Authentically - Part I
Abraham is a powerful example of faith and of waiting on God's promises. In Genesis 12, God called Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a land that He would show him. Abraham obeyed and set out on a journey of faith, not knowing where he was going or what the future held. Along the way, God made several promises to Abraham, including the promise that he would be the father of a great nation and that through him, all the nations of the earth would be blessed.
Despite the many challenges and setbacks that Abraham faced, he continued to trust in God and to wait patiently for the fulfillment of His promises. Abraham faced a long and difficult wait, as God's promises were not fully realized until many years later. But he did not let his circumstances or his doubts shake his faith. Instead, he remained steadfast and obedient to God, trusting in His timing and His plan. Abraham's journey of faith serves as an encouragement to us to trust in God's promises and to wait patiently on Him, no matter how difficult the wait may be.
Let’s unpack this idea of “waiting patiently” before your eyes start to roll as you anticipate yet another unhelpful pep talk about waiting on God’s promises. Patience does not look like keeping silent or not seeking God for clarity about what He previously said. Patiently waiting includes up days that are full of faith and those down days when you’re a few seconds away from letting go.
When the raw emotions of your humanity rear their head after long seasons of waiting, be reminded that your feelings are not facts. You can feel confused, tired, even questioning and still trust God. The recipe for your life has a preparation time that has not been disclosed but God knows exactly How long His purposes need to bake.
Prayer:
Dear God, I choose to trust you because you know where and how long it takes to bring your beautiful purpose to fruition in my life. Give me the courage like Abraham to step out on what you have told me because your instructions are trustworthy and good. In Jesus' name, amen.
Pro Tip For Seasons of Waiting:
Find safe places to unpack the unpleasant feelings that arise while you wait. Prayer, journaling, and a Christian therapist or mentor can be great safe spaces for deconstructing your feelings from the facts.
Reminder:
It was along the way that God made several additional promises to Abraham. Waiting on God is active and requires a faith-filled response.
