Real Hope: Paradoxes of GodSample
Truth And Love
God’s love – is never-ending and bottomless. God’s truth – all-seeing, pure, and perfect. Combine the two and things can get complex. On one hand, God is infinitely loving and merciful, forgiving sins and offering redemption to all who seek it. However, at the same time, God is perfectly just and truthful with a moral code hard to obtain. HOW CAN THIS BE?
We often like dwelling in one or the other, finding comfort in the love or the truth of God. The warmth of God’s love brings comfort, knowing that when we hit bumps in the road, there’s a soft landing in God’s embrace. The safety of God’s truth helps us find assurance in knowing there’s a better way of living life that benefits the individual and the community around us when we daily submit to the disciplines of the Christian faith.
At various stages of life, you’ve likely sat on both sides, Camp Love or Camp Truth, and maybe looked at the other camp with a sense of pride or perhaps superiority. They’re camps we enjoy and feel benefit from but where’d they come from? Are they from God? After all, isn’t God’s love and mercy expressed through His justice and truth? Perhaps the two camps are more complementary rather than contradictory.
Consider the verse above. It’s a beautiful psalm suggesting that love and faithfulness are intertwined, just as righteousness and peace are closely related. The psalmist reflects the idea that God’s love and truth are complementary aspects of the divine, working together to guide and support those who seek to connect with Him.
