Introduction to the Wife Study: God Knows Us Intimately and Loves Us Deeply

Have you ever been pegged wrong by someone who is supposed to be close to you? For instance, when someone that is supposed to be very close to you makes an assumption about you that’s dead wrong, or describes you to other people and it’s way off base, or suggests something to you that they are so confident that you will like and they are sadly mistaken. When that happens, it stings. It makes you feel like they don’t really know you. Often our minds take it a step further, and we assume that they don’t care about us enough to take the time to know us. It can make you feel unloved. That’s because, part of loving someone is knowing them.

Part of the way we are loved by God is that he knows us. In Matthew 10 we see that God knows even the hairs on our head and has them counted. In Psalm 139 we see that God is all-knowing, and therefore knows what we do, where we go, every detail of our physical being, what we think, and even our hearts.

God knows us intimately. He knows our everything and despite all of our failings, he loves us and counts us as worthy (2 Corinthians 5:9-10).

God is the creator of love and who we need to go to for love advice. It’s his love that we want to model. If we are modeling our love off of God’s love, it’s clear that one component of love is knowing. One way you can grow at loving your wife is to grow in your knowledge of her. One simple way to emulate God’s love is to work to know your wife since knowledge is a clear component of love modeled by God.

God knows everything without having to do anything because he is omniscient (all-knowing). We, on the other hand, are not omniscient. We have to work and seek in order to gain knowledge.

Over the next few days you will study your wife as a way to grow in godly love for her.

Challenge: Before diving into the Wife Study, take today to meditate on the fact that God knows you intimately and loves you deeply.

Prayer Challenge: Pray and thank God for being all-knowing and for loving you despite your failings. If believing God knows you fully and yet loves you deeply is hard for you, pray and ask God to reveal to you today how he feels about you.
