Day 1 – The Miracle Of Faith

In a world full of pain, suffering, and hurt - we are all looking for a Savior. We may know about the God of the Old Testament that parted the Red Sea. And we may know about the Jesus of the New Testament that raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. But how does that help us now, today? How do we handle the trials and deep grief we see around us?

On our Essential Worship Instagram account, we put a poll out asking the question, “Where in your life are you praying for a miracle?”. Here are some of the answers we got…

Over sickness and disease

Over worry

Over loneliness and depression

Over work and also joblessness

Over unbelievers

And the list goes on. All of us are praying for a miracle - but what does that look like? Does God still do miracles?

In Greek (the language that the New Testament was written in), the word “Miracle” has various translations, depending on the nature of what Jesus does. There’s sēmeion (sign), ergon (deed), teras (wonder), and dunamis (power). The importance of a “miracle” not being defined by a single word reveals its very nature. A miracle is a sign coming from a deed whose power holds our wonder. These words show that miracles pointed to something greater than a singular event. Fyodor Dostoevsky said, “In the realist, faith is not born from miracles, but miracles from faith.”

Just like the original question we asked our followers, we want to ask you, “Where in your life are you praying for a miracle?”

Those most likely to see a miracle - are the ones praying for one, thus believing in one! The song “Miracle In Me” by Red Rocks Worship says, “Oh, I’m not leaving here the same.”

What a declaration to say, “I am not leaving here the same.” A similar declaration could have been said by the Canaanite woman who met Jesus during his ministry. She came to Jesus asking for His help with a demon who possessed her daughter. At this time, Jesus’s ministry was primarily focused on His people, the Jews. This woman, as a Canaanite, didn’t belong - yet, she approached Him with deep humility. She recognized her unworthiness but believed He could perform a miracle for her.

Which He did, “Then Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.’ And her daughter was healed at that moment” (Matthew 15:28).

She believed a miracle could happen and knew she wouldn’t leave without a change.

Do we believe the same? Do we have faith for it? If not, maybe it’s time to start praying big prayers again together.
