Worthy: 10 Mindful Moments to Bring Peace to Your DaySample
Leaning Into Healthy Conflict
Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His body, the church. EPHESIANS 4:15 NLT
Would you consider yourself conflict-avoidant or resolution-forward? We tend to believe the things that are said can cause the most harm to a relationship. But consider that often, it’s what’s unsaid that leaves a relationship in ambiguity, disconnection, and resentment. We are wired for healthy attachment in relationships with others. So it’s understandable when a difficult relationship or lingering issue creates underlying anxiety and disrupts our peace.
When we can lovingly and respectfully lay our concerns out on the table, it allows us to authentically work through our relationships honestly. It also shows us the strength of that relationship. Sometimes it’s through friction that two people can be brought closer, sparking a new fire in the relationship.
Most times, resolving a conflict will feel uncomfortable before there’s relief. Remind yourself that it’s part of the growth process that also strengthens our character. What isn’t addressed will often repeat itself. So think about the long-term strength of the relationship. If you feel convicted to bring clarity and understanding into a relationship, consider writing out your thoughts on the matter so you have clarity from yourself when you do.
AFFIRMATION:
Facing conflict is a part of the growth process that is also strengthening my character.
