Trusting God During the StrugglesSample
What does it mean to fix our eyes on something?
It means where we focus our attention.
My husband has a terrible habit of looking out the side window when he’s driving. And when he does that, the car starts to drift in the direction he’s looking.
You see, the car moves based on where he has focused his attention. It impacts the direction we’re going - if I don’t snap him out of it!
Consider Peter when he asked Jesus to call him out of the boat onto the water. When Peter had “fixed his eyes” on Jesus - his faith was bolstered, and he walked on water. But when he switched his attention to the storm raging around him, he felt scared and started to sink.
This is with us too in our daily lives.
If we fix our eyes on our circumstances - that are ever changing - we will be tossed about by the waves of life. Our direction will start to change - from one of faith to one of anxiety and fear.
BUT if we fix our eyes - keep our focus - on Christ who NEVER changes - we will be bolstered in our faith to walk the path laid out in front of us in God confidence.
Everything in this world is trying to capture our attention. The enemy is always trying to avert our gaze from Jesus to things and troubles of this world.
What you focus on grows.
Focus on Jesus - the eternal one - faith grows.
Focus on your circumstance - the temporary thing - fear grows.
Take care to guard your focus.
Reflection Questions:
- Where do you tend to take your eyes off Jesus and onto the circumstance? With finances? Relationships? Health?
- How can you be diligent in keeping or redirecting your focus onto what is eternal?
- What daily behaviors can you implement to support fixing your eyes on Christ?

About this Plan
It can be hard to trust God during our struggles. During our wilderness. He can seem absent from our pain. But God has promised to never leave or forsake us. He has promised to lead us beside still waters. In this 4 day devotional, be challenged to see how God is moving in your circumstance - and how you can redirect your gaze to him in the midst of the storm.
