How to Really Pray for Foster Families
Day 3 Pray for Wisdom
Wisdom for Anxiousness
The realm of foster care can be overwhelming with biological parent visits, social worker visits, and medical appointments. Often the uncertainty of these visits can cause a bombardment of anxious thoughts and legitimate concerns. Pray for the peace that passes all understanding for these families. Pray for calmness amid their storms.
Wisdom for Prudent Parenting
Parenting biological children often come naturally as most of us parent the way our parents did, or better if we have learned more about child development or studied parenting techniques. When families choose to undertake foster care, parenting gets turned upside down.
Regular parenting practices can backfire and cause additional trauma. Foster parents often have to learn new ways to connect with a hurt child who lashes out or becomes withdrawn because of their first experiences as an infant or small child. Pray for wisdom in parenting to make prudent decisions and connect with these vulnerable children.
Wisdom for Seasoned Communication
Our communication can lead others toward Christ or away from Christ. Foster parents can get into the pit with the biological parents going through a tough time financially, through addiction, or lack of proper parenting skills. Pray that the door will open for foster parents to speak pleasant, uplifting words to biological families, social workers, and other professionals interacting with foster care children. Who knows if a kind word could alter life for eternity? (2 Chronicles 9:7)
Wisdom for Justice
Foster parents enter the world of the legal system when their foster child's life is placed in the hands of a judge. The singular judge is charged in making proper decisions about reunification or the heavy decision for the termination of the parent's legal rights to the child. Each foster care case has one of these two options.
Offer a prayer for justice and wisdom so the judge will make the best decision considering all facts. Please pray the heart of the judge discerns the child's best interest in the long term. Pray these decisions, ultimately, turn the destiny of the family closer to Christ. (1 Kings 4:29)
