Preparing for the Power of PentecostSample
Jesus’s command to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth requires leadership. Judas’s death had left a leadership vacuum that needed filling. In filling that void, we see two principles for our own leadership.
First, the apostles set clear criteria for who would be eligible. These criteria rested on what was most important (v21-22). To be Christ’s witness, the new leader needed personal experiences of Christ’s teachings so they could teach others. Likewise, you and I must clearly set leadership criteria in light of what’s most important.
Second, the apostles did not vote for a new leader. With clear criteria for eligibility, they identified two leaders: Joseph and Matthias. As leaders, we must seek to recognize other people anointed for leadership. We also see unity in the Apostles. They united in heart, seeking God’s anointed leader for the position (v24). While the Apostles used lots to recognize God’s anointing, we have the New Testament to help us recognize who God is calling.
As we seek to experience power like Pentecost, let’s recognize who God is calling to lead in that next season.
Action Steps:
Pray that God will prepare more leaders to lead within your organization. Ask Him to anoint them with the abilities they need to lead well in fulfilling the mission and vision. Pray that He helps you see who He is anointing for next-level leadership and influence.
