[Wisdom for Kids] Wisdom Has Rewards!

DAY 1 OF 7

Treasure

King Solomon, King David’s son, asked God for wisdom to guide God’s people—the Israelites. Wisdom is being able to make good choices in every situation. God honored Solomon and gave him understanding above anyone else who had ever lived. Solomon wrote a book, the Book of Proverbs, in which he shared God’s wisdom with others.

Solomon realized that God’s knowledge starts with respecting and honoring the Lord first. We become wise when we learn God’s teachings through His Word and obey His instructions. God wants to give us special gifts that will help us throughout our whole lives, like insight, common sense, good judgment, understanding, and knowledge. Imagine how you would look for treasure using a treasure map; that’s how God wants you to use His Word to find these gifts! And He offers them to everyone who wants to discover them.

It is like a cycle: as we search for His wisdom, God reveals who He is and gives us those lifelong gifts. And as we practice what we learn from Him, His knowledge and wisdom flow through us. This exercise only makes us respect Him more.

(Parents/adults–talk to your child about a time when you lost something valuable. Did you look casually for it, or did you get on your knees with the flashlight to search for it? What is the difference between just looking around and searching for something? Does the object you’re looking for affect how diligently you search for it?)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to understand how I can respect You better with my heart and actions. Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

[Wisdom for Kids] Wisdom Has Rewards!

This devotional introduces children to the second chapter of the Book of Proverbs. This plan is intended to be completed by adults with their children. As you read each devotion, you will see instructions for the parent/adult to discuss ideas and/or situations with the child to aid in their understanding of the biblical concept of wisdom. Be ready to share God’s goodness with your child.
