30DaysOfBibleLettering - Round 4 Sample
He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
Hebrews 5:8 NASB
Jesus knows exactly what you're going through. It's easy to think that because He was God's Son, Jesus didn't have any difficulty in obeying. Obedience would come easy for him, right? But the truth is, He gave up his boundless power to become human. He prayed with tears and loud crying to the One who could save Him (Hebrews 5:7). He asked the Father three times to remove the "cup" from Him, to make another way. But God didn't do it. We often ask God to remove our cup of suffering, too. Sometimes He does, but more often He doesn't.
Instead of being bitter or angry at God for not answering your prayers the way you wish, remember that Jesus learned obedience through the things that caused Him suffering. He understood that obedience to the Father's will was more important than His own comfort. He chose obedience. He is our example, from whom we should learn humble obedience to the will of God. It's with that kind of submission that we grow. And praise God we have Jesus, our High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses because He also experienced weakness. Who gives us mercy and grace to help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16). Thank you, Jesus, for subjecting yourself to intense suffering so we can look to You and find hope.
