After Mary Magdalene’s news that the tomb was empty, Peter and John go to see what is happening. After finding the tomb empty they 'return to their homes’ (v10). This is a very small detail that is easy to overlook, but it speaks to significant times in the biblical narrative when people have returned to their homes whilst others have stayed behind. Two examples are Moses telling the Israelites ‘return to your tents’ (Deuteronomy 5:30-31) whilst he stayed to speak with the Lord, and Samuel who says ‘return to your homes’ (1 Samuel 8:22) after the Israelites had demanded a king. We will see the significance of this tomorrow…
