Seeking God

DAY 21 OF 48

We can become more intimate with our Heavenly Father by seeking Him through prayer. I used to look at prayer as something you do when you have an important request or a plea for help when tragedy strikes. Years ago, I became aware of my prayerlessness when I realized how much my husband, Craig, was praying. He would be sitting quietly in a chair, and I would ask, 'What you are doing?' His response was almost always, 'praying.' I realized then that I didn't have a prayer life like that! This realization was a catalyst that began my hard pursuit of God. I wanted to have an authentic and dynamic relationship with my God through prayer. Now, after many years of focused, passionate, habitual practice prayer is a vital part of my entire life. Do you want this too?

You can experience God in such a close way that often it will seem that you've just had time with your best friend. But remember, faith and prayer are not about our emotions, so if you don't feel like you are having an encounter with your closest friend, don't worry. Relationships take time. Keep pressing toward the goal of getting to know Him. Here are some of the reasons you might fail to pray: You get bored when it feels like you're the only one talking. You're not really sure how to pray. You are too busy and distracted by life's demands and pleasures. You think God has more important things to spend His time on. You don't believe your prayers will make a difference. Too many prayers weren't answered in the way you'd hoped. Ask yourself, 'Why do I fail to pray?'
