DAY 5 OF 7

BECAUSE WE NEED IT

There are some who will say that you can live a Godly life and be a Christian without ever stepping foot in a church or spending focused, intentional time with other Christians. The problem is, we weren't created to be on our own. One of the very first things God says after creating the first man is that it wasn't good for him to be alone. The Bible paints a picture of a healthy community contributing and learning together.

It seems to lead us to believe that there is something that happens when we're together that just doesn't happen when we're apart.

This is a difficult concept for us to internalize and agree with in our culture of individualism and lone wolves. The truth is, that notion and belief system is prideful - we can't do everything all on our own. Not only does it negatively affect us when we're unable to hear thoughts, ideas, encouragement, and rebuke from others, it also eventually leads to believing that we don't really need God either.

Self-sufficiency at its core has no place in following Jesus.

The single greatest tenet of what we believe about ourselves as humans is that we weren't enough; not enough to live a sinless life, not enough to get right with God on our own, and not enough to accomplish what He's called us to accomplish alone. When we work together, we are far more effective and spiritually healthier for it.

Why does attending church matter?

BECAUSE WE NEED IT.
