Acts: Go & Be Chapters 19-28Sample
What is this passage saying?
Paul is still setting sail for Rome. It is the middle of the night in this passage, and they are now on day 14 of this storm, and the crew is becoming anxious. They have not eaten in two weeks. Some of the sailors try to get in the lifeboat and abandon the ship, but Paul warns them that if they get out of the ship, they will surely die. Paul then tells everyone on the ship to eat. They eat for the first time and then throw the rest of the food cargo overboard. The morning is coming, and they cannot see the coastline. They cut off their anchors heading to shore, but because they could not see, they hit this massive rock and became shipwrecked. The soldiers become scared, so they want to kill the prisoners on the ship. The commanding officer wants to spare Paul, so he commanders the soldiers not to kill anyone, and everyone escapes the shipwreck and makes it safely to shore.
What is this passage teaching?
God is still working in the midst of the storm. The storm has caused the ship to wreck. God has promised Paul that he will get to Rome. Paul trusts in the Lord despite the circumstances he is in.
How do I respond?
Trust in God's promises when the circumstances around you seem overwhelming. God is in control!
