Holy Week: A Journey From Jesus’ Death to ResurrectionSample

Good Friday: Jesus’ Trial and Death
We’ve arrived at the day often called “Good Friday.” It’s an odd name for a day marked by death and suffering.
So much has happened since we left Jesus praying in the garden. Judas has led the guards to Jesus, and He’s arrested and then tried by the High Priest, the high council, Pilate, and finally Herod. These “trials” are the very definition of a sham trial, a miscarriage of justice.
And God used it to fulfill His plan. He is the Lord of the nations and wanted to make a way for us to be with Him. That meant a perfect sacrifice needed to be made.
“Good” is a complicated word. We often associate it with feeling good emotionally, but sometimes what is good is what is hard. It was good for us that Jesus went to the cross, and because of His great love for us, He surrendered Himself and died for us.
Prayer: God, You are good, even when it doesn’t feel like You are. I don’t fully understand Your ways, but I thank You for making a way for me to be with You through Jesus. Lord, be present with me now as I linger in Your death. Holy Spirit, guide me as I study.
About this Plan

You are beginning a journey through the most important week in history. Come along with us and recline with Jesus at the Passover table, linger in the silence of Holy Saturday, and experience the joy of Jesus’ Resurrection. Each day, we’ll look at what the gospels say about the events of Holy Week and walk through a simple prayer. We’ll follow the S.O.A.P. study method: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.
