You And Me Forever: Marriage In Light Of EternitySample
"Theology Lessons"
Many people assume that attending church services or saying a prayer is all God wants from us, as if He’s only interested in an attendance sheet or a prayer quota.
It doesn’t matter how powerful a religious experience you’ve had, how long you’ve been a Christian, or how faithful a churchgoer you have been. If you are not growing in your relationship with Jesus, if you are not actively pursuing Him, then you’re in trouble. Never forget: “apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
So many Christians assume that they can be great spouses even as they neglect their relationship with Jesus. But it doesn’t work like that.
Whether you have been a Christian for decades or this is an entirely new concept for you, it’s essential that you take time to consider where you stand with God. Don’t settle for quick answers like, “Yes, I believe the gospel.” It may be that you discover that you don’t really know God yet. If so, this could be the greatest day of your life! Be honest with your spouse about it, and make this the day you turn to Jesus. Don’t take this lightly. It’s the difference between life and death, heaven and hell.
Take this opportunity to consider what it is that Jesus has done for you and how these realities should affect your life and marriage. We will continue to explore marriage in greater depth, but the way forward in your marriage is a deepening of your relationship with God. Read the same passage you read yesterday, but this time focus only on what this passage tells you about Jesus. What has He done for you? How does that make you feel? What does it mean for your future?
Discuss with your spouse: What do you learn about Jesus from this passage? How should it affect your life and marriage?

About this Plan
In this 30-day reading plan, Francis and Lisa Chan set aside typical approaches to talking about marriage and dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls. In the same way that Crazy Love changed the way we view our personal relationships with God, You and Me Forever will shift the way we view our marriage relationships.
