Week 7: Ascension
Fix your Heart
I wear a smartwatch pretty much all the time. I never really wore a watch until I got a smartwatch. Actually, my first one was more like a fitness tracker before they tethered these things to our phones. All day long, it tracks me and checks me. I never really notice it. It's not like it's prodding me. Or sticking me with a needle or something. But there it is on my wrist tracking my steps and heart rate.
The reason I first started wearing one was to track my heart rate. I could go back through the day and review when my heart rate escalated and when it was still. I wear it while I sleep, and it tracks how good of sleep I get. It can track every beat of my heart, but it cannot focus my heart. It can evaluate but not precipitate. It can only track. It cannot dictate.
See, no matter how much feedback I receive from my watch, I am still the one that has to decide where to focus my heart and my mind.
Today's scripture reading is stunning. It's just one of those small chunks of scripture that enamor and fascinate the one who slows down long enough to pay attention. Paul says in today's reading that we are to set our minds and our hearts specifically on the place where Jesus is seated currently. I won't tell you everything else he will say because I want you to relish and enjoy it as much as I have.
I think this passage today might serve as a heart monitor for us. Maybe we need to put on a spiritual smartwatch today.
Where has your mind and your heart been fixed lately?
What have you been focused on?
Has your heart rate been in rhythm with Jesus?
Today, pray that God will align your heart and mind with his Son. Ask him to give you a heartbeat in rhythm with the ascended king.

About this Plan
The good news of Jesus the Messiah is not only an invitation into eternal life, but it is also an invitation into life in the present. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God is forming us into the Gospel as well. In this eight-week series, we explore each dimension of the Gospel and how we can practice each of these dimensions in our lives today.
