“If you love me, keep my commands.” It’s what Jesus says in John 14:15. For him, love and obedience go hand-in-hand. Jesus is going away. The cross awaits. He’s making that clear. And even though he’ll rise from the dead, his time on earth with his disciples will be short-lived. These are final, intimate moments never to be repeated. But he will not leave us alone. He’ll send his Spirit to be with us, even though he is going away.
