Confidence Devotional JourneySample
Day 10 | Confidence Grows with Encouragement
Reflection
Today and every day we are called to find ways to encourage one another. When we do this, we achieve more than growing confidence in others – we so often gain confidence ourselves in the process.
The Greek word parakaleó, translated into English as encourage in Hebrews 3:13, is a compound of the words ‘para’ and ‘kaleo.’ Para involves ‘coming alongside’. Kaleo implies ‘beckoning’ and ‘calling to action’.
Together, these two words add up to being close beside someone, assuring them they’re not alone and urging them to do the right thing for God each day.
The wider context of this verse recognises that life has many other pressures and temptations. Perhaps that’s why we should encourage one another daily rather than just occasionally! These verses call on every one of us to call on each other – to keep going and to hold on to our convictions.
Responding in prayer
Lord, thank you for the encouragers in our lives. Thank you for the way they give courage and grow confidence in me and others.
Lord, remind me to encourage daily.
Lord, please bring someone to my mind. Surprise me with who I can surprise with encouragement today.

About this Plan
In theory, we all know we can be confident in our faith, and when we’re gathered together with other Christians, we often feel full of confidence. But when daily life hits, it can all drain away. How can we change that, with God’s help? This Lent devotional journey will help you grow deep faith-confidence that lasts from Sunday into the rest of your week, so you can boldly join in God’s work right where you are. Over the 40 days of Lent, you’ll reflect on six key ways we can grow in confidence: 1. Confidence through being convinced 2. Confidence through community 3. Confidence through compassion 4. Confidence through consistency 5. Confidence through competence 6. Confidence through courage
