The God Who Heals You

I have ministered to thousands of sick people as a pastor and hospital chaplain in the largest medical center in the world, and I have witnessed countless healing miracles. In this devotional, I share proven biblical keys to healing that worked for the people who received those miracles. The first key is to believe that God is your Healer. You can’t have faith for your healing unless you first believe that God is a healing God.

By starting with the words “I am,” in Exodus, God was saying, “Healing is not just something I do; it is who I am. Healing is part of My nature. I am your Healer.” In the original Hebrew language, this translates as one of the names of God: Jehovah Rapha (RAH-fah), “God who heals you.”

God uses doctors and medicine, but He alone is our Healer. He can do things doctors and medicine can’t do. They are limited, but He is not. That medical condition may look big and scary, but God is bigger and stronger. That sickness may feel like it has power over you, but God has all power. There is nothing He can’t do!

When Jesus came to the earth, the Scripture says He was the express image of the invisible God. Everything Jesus said and did revealed God’s nature. One of the main things He did was heal the sick. In fact, every person who came to Jesus for healing got healed. Multitudes were healed of every kind of sickness and disease. No one was turned away. Thirteen times in Scripture, it says Jesus healed them all. Jesus demonstrated beyond any doubt that God is our Healer. Hebrews says He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He never changes. He still heals today. Healing and miracles are part of His nature.

It is important to understand that God never said when He would heal us. Some people receive a miracle healing on Earth and others are healed the ultimate way—by going to Heaven. Why some are healed this side of Heaven and some are not is a mystery to be sorted out later, but it doesn’t negate the fact that God is a miracle-working, healing God. Our part is to have faith and believe Him for our healing.
