Wait, Watch, Worship: A Lent DevotionalSample

Wilderness (from suffering to solace)
Sunday – 42 days before Easter
Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus’ wilderness episode reminds us of the Israelites’ wilderness wanderings (told in Numbers and Deuteronomy) except for this:
- Jesus remained faithful.
- Jesus remained humble.
- Jesus remained obedient.
- Jesus remained focused on his Father rather than himself and his own sufferings.
As you read the story today, simply imagine the scene — the sounds, the setting, the suffering, and the struggle. Thank the Father for sending his Son who did not falter, even under severe temptation.

About this Plan

From Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday, this devotional plan reflects on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, tracing the themes such as wait, wonder, watch, and worship. Each week focuses on a specific Biblical story (Sunday-Friday) and ends with a Psalm (Saturday). Holy Week traces the final scenes and events of Jesus' life, crucifixion, and resurrection.
