Samuel's first distinguishing feature was his constant readiness to serve God. Our schedule must be determined by God rather than by us when we choose to labor for the Lord. Because it costs to seek God, his presence, and his blessing... It involves time, energy, dedication, sacrifice, sanctification, giving up things that are not pleasing to God, taking up our cross every day, intense prayer, fasting, and study of God's word; it is challenging to deny oneself; it is challenging to do not my will but his will.
