He Gets Us: Who Did Jesus Love? | Plan 4

DAY 1 OF 9

Messy and Beautiful – How Jesus Loved

Culture wars are nothing new.

Pick a point on history’s timeline anywhere on a map and you’ll find people at war with each other. The issue of the day can range from immense to incidental: how to govern, how to live as a community, what’s important to the family, how to worship, who’s important/who’s not, even what to wear, what to eat, or watch online.

Our culture conflicts seem big today because we’re seeing them up close. But people are people, no matter when or where you lived. Some things unite us. Others divide us.

But one thing brings us together; one thing heals and helps. When we love each other.

No matter the differences in how we think, love breaks down the barriers between us.

It spans distances between what we each prize and what we praise.

Love may cost you something, but it returns more.

Love is the underlying theme of every great story. But to be honest, the story gets messy—perhaps that’s what makes it so beautiful.

Beautiful and messy. That’s what you’ll see with a closer look at the life of Jesus, without question the most famous man in history. Far from the stained-glass portraits of him that we gaze at high above in formal, quiet cathedrals, let’s look at how Jesus loved broken people in down to earth places. The stained glass might get cracked—but that’s how the light gets in.

Let’s watch Jesus visit with blue collar workers, beggars, and con men. Widows and blind people, and those invisible to the crowd. We’ll witness a man who will not only tell you about God, but demonstrate what’s true about God in how well he loved people.

Take a closer look at how Jesus loved and see how the lines defining and dividing us can disappear.
