Theology for Everybody: Romans

DAY 79 OF 365

Crazy Grace: Good News for Bad People

Paul spends most of the first three chapters of Romans hammering the truth about human sin, God’s wrath, and our universal, desperate need for grace and faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, whereby we are declared justified as righteous in God’s sight.

Then the apostle pivots from bad news to good news. In our world filled with bad news, here are ten good news truths made possible by Jesus Christ!

1. I am all wrong, but Jesus Christ makes it all right!

2. I am unrighteous, but Jesus Christ is my righteousness!

3. I am worse than I can imagine, but Jesus Christ is better than I can fathom! 4. I am my problem, but Jesus Christ is my solution!

5. I am God’s enemy, but Jesus Christ calls me friend!

6. I am a child of the devil, but Jesus Christ made me a child of God!

7. I am under the wrath of God, but Jesus Christ put me under the love of God! 8. I am a sinner, but Jesus Christ is my Savior!

9. I am dead, but Jesus Christ makes me alive!

10. I am headed to hell, but Jesus Christ is taking me to heaven!

There are two kinds of people: bad people and really bad people who think they’re good. So, for those of you who now know how bad you are, I have good news: God has grace, love, and forgiveness available for you. He has Jesus for you!

The first two things we all need to know are who God is and who He says we are. And once we know who God is, and we know who God says we are, we can figure out the rest of life and what to do.

Today’s Reflection

How do these good news truths influence your appreciation and love for Jesus?

About this Plan

Theology for Everybody: Romans

After Pastor Mark got saved in his college dorm room reading the book of Romans, this 365-day devotional is the culmination of more than 30 years of studying this incredible book. Chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse, this book digs into topics covered in the great book of Romans, such as justification, grace, predestination, legalism, deconstruction, and more.
