Year of the Bible: Part Twelve of TwelveSample

This is Real Love
John echoes Jesus, declaring that love for God isn't something you feel or can fall in or out of, but that genuine love for God is a decision you make to obey Him as you depend on the Holy Spirit to help you walk as a follower of Jesus.
We can easily overcomplicate our relationship with Jesus, adding all sorts of do's, don'ts, lists, and other expectations. But there is one thing Jesus really wants from us: trust. Do you trust Him enough to obey him in the small and big things? What about when the outcomes are unclear, or the result of your obedience could lead you into a place of risk?
Question: How would you like to grow in your ability to listen, obey, and love because Jesus first loved you?
Prayer: Jesus, I want to love you with my obedience as a response to your love for me. Help me grow in my love for you; teach me to obey, not from obligation, but because I trust you. Open my eyes to see your character more clearly, so I can trust you more and more each day, showing your love to everyone I meet. Holy Spirit, fill me afresh to honor the Lord will all my heart. In Jesus' name, Amen!
