Women of Welcome: Christ-Like WelcomeSample

Welcome that Engages
Thoughtful Questions:
1. Have you ever welcomed someone that others readily disagreed with or disapproved of? If so, share with your group.
2. When we choose to welcome like Christ, sometimes we must risk our reputation. Can you recall a time you risked your reputation to extend encouragement or care to someone others readily ignore?
3. Have you ever been upset or frustrated by someone else’s welcome toward someone you believed undeserving (like the Pharisees were in Luke 6)?
4. In both of these passages, Jesus is challenging the observers around him. Does anything challenge or convict you in either of these stories?

About this Plan

The welcome of Christ was astonishing to the culture around him. He gave voice to the speechless, frustrated the powerful, and humbled the wise. As Christians, our welcome should be like his– wonderfully surprising, deeply challenging, and firmly rooted in love. This five-week study explores the complicated and beautiful welcome of Jesus toward his most beloved creation, human beings. Jump in with us, individually or with a small group, and let’s transform how we show welcome.
