Finding the Light in Grief

DAY 4 OF 7

DAY 4

PROCESS

Welcome back! This week we have been looking at Scripture as it relates to our grief. It is inevitable; we all will have loss in our life. We experience loss through losing someone we care about and may experience loss over things not living. We have learned even Jesus grieved over the city of Jerusalem in Luke 19:41.

We have looked at a psychological understanding of grief in five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In addition, we have seen the Biblical process of lamenting as we communicate with God through our grief.

Just yesterday, we have come to understand that not only are we communicating with God in our pain of loss, but Jesus is by our side, supporting and caring for us.

As we look into our own process of lamenting, we must understand everyone’s process looks different. Never feel like you are not grieving properly. If you allow yourself time to grieve over a loss, you will naturally go through the process in your own way.

Sometimes it is hard to communicate with God in our pain. At times we can blame Him for the loss and become very angry. We know He can handle our emotions. So if you have stayed distant from God in your loss, I want to provide a little insight on how you can set yourself up to lament or communicate your feelings with God. The good, the bad, and the ugly feelings.

Psalm 34:18 says:

18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Here’s the good news. You don’t have to search for God when you are grieving. Perhaps you have pushed Him aside in anger, or you may have walked away from Him in blame, but He has always been close to you and is ready to care for your broken heart.

So, as we close today, I want to encourage you to find your own place to meet God. This is not necessarily a physical place but a mental one. As you mentally meet with God, you allow time for communication. He can handle your tough feelings, but all you need to do is seek Him.

Personally, I find it easier to lament when I can visualize a meeting place. I mentally go to this meeting place when I want to be alone with God. Only He and I know this place. When I seek God, I find comfort. I may not know the words to say or my emotions, but I always find comfort.

I’ve prayed that you know you are not alone this week, and I am praying today that you find that meeting place. It’s a place of solitude where you can be one with God. He can provide you comfort even if you don’t know how to express your feelings. God is close; you just have to meet Him.

I’ll see you tomorrow as we learn how the Holy Spirit moves when we are at a loss for words with God.
