A World On The MoveSample
On Mission in a Moving World
If you have ever moved, you know the disruption it can cause in your life. Now imagine millions on the move—sometimes in less than ideal circumstances. Some are simply moving to start a new life, but others are under much more extreme pressure. With a background of war, trafficking, job loss, and countless other disruptors, people are finding themselves in many new places. Did you know that Thailand deports more than 23,000 Cambodian trafficking victims each year?
Today people are on the move across the globe in unprecedented ways. Do you understand their movements? What is motivating them to leave everything behind? What are the implications for the places they are going? Explore these questions through today’s Missiographic by learning how many million international migrants live abroad globally and the median age of a migrant—plus much more.
Personal Reflection
A great place to start dealing with the issues that surround the global movement of people is to identify with them. Think about a time when you have been new to a place. What feelings were dominant? What opportunities and challenges did you face? Then consider the people of Israel traveling through the desert, Jesus as a young boy in Egypt, and Paul sitting under house arrest in Rome. What must they have been going through? As your empathy brings you face-to-face with real people in these situations, ask God how you should respond in love.
Prayer
Lord, it’s tough to move under the best of circumstances. Help me to be more aware of—and caring towards—those who are on the move around the world. If there’s one person I can minister to today in Your name, please show them to me and give me the words/actions to help.

About this Plan
People are on the move today more than ever. Some move of their own will. But there are millions of people who are displaced—forced to move by circumstances beyond their control. So let’s learn from those on the move around the world and see what God will teach us as we consider who our neighbors are, what God is doing in places like Singapore and Wheaton, IL (USA), the challenges and opportunities found in cities, and 7 statistics that remind us Who is in control. Even as the world moves, He always remains constant!
