Fight for It: A 21-Day DevotionalSample
Today’s Devotional:
Nothing is better than drinking purified water. The taste is refreshing. I am picky when it comes to how water tastes. I can tell if water has a nasty smell or taste to it. This is why I spend the money to replace the filter on my refrigerator every six months.
When we approach God, we are to come with a clean and pure heart. Purity takes cleaning up things in our life. It takes getting rid of the dirty and dead parts that contaminate us. Dead things smell horrible. Purity is beautiful. Pure water looks clear. When I look through unfiltered water, my view is cloudy. But when I look through pure water, I can see right through. This is why Paul says that without holiness we will not be able to see the Lord.
Holiness sometimes gets bad press. People who are not following Jesus will criticize holiness as being rigid and judgmental. Some will marginalize holiness as unattainable and unimportant, claiming that they simply live in grace. Yet, holiness is a purification process for our lives.
When we live with clean hands and a pure heart, we live in beautiful, refreshing freedom. Holiness does not hold us down; it gives us the freedom to fly. As Christians, we are to live differently from the world. Paul also teaches that we are to “come out from them and be separate.” (2 Corinthians 7:17) Holiness means that we are separated from the world because we belong to God. We don’t touch what the world touches. If we do, we become contaminated, and our life becomes impure. We then cloud our view of God. To be purified, we must stay away from what the world sells us as desirable. It actually is destructive, leading us only to bondage.
As you live in holiness to God, you will be able to walk in freedom.

A Prayer to ‘Look In’: God, search my heart and purify me. Make me holy as you are holy. Set me free from all lies and deception so I can walk in purity and truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
