Daily Presence

DAY 174 OF 365

I grew up in the city, but growing up in a city in Costa Rica is quite different from growing up in a city in the USA. It’s not a concrete jungle as some describe, this type of city is a mixture between concrete and nature. It is incredibly beautiful. It allows you to experience and appreciate both. Despite living in the city, it is common to go out to the country and experience all the biodiversity the country has to offer. I’ve always enjoyed nature. It has a calming and relaxing effect on me. It pushes me to meditate on our God the creator. Nothing makes me think of God like hearing a waterfall, walking by the beach, sitting in the rainforest, etc. The truth is, I have always believed that creation calls and proclaims the glory of God. Something so beautiful makes you stop and wonder how it was that our God created the world.

Psalm 104 is a beautiful poetic depiction of creation. Creation forms and obeys the words of the Lord. I love how it describes God as putting the foundations, setting the limits, and allowing things to flow. If you sit in the creation and meditate I’m positive you will see God’s hand. We simply don’t slow down enough to see the universe proclaim, as a work of art that proclaims the technique and artistry of its creator. The birds chirping, the stars shining, the thunder and the rain, all spell out God like nothing else.

As we meditate on the creation of God we come to realize that He is greater than we are. We come to realize His magnitude above our situation or circumstance. Nothing is outside of His capacity to influence. You can rest assured that God has got you. That He is worthy of your praises and worship. If something so majestic as the creation footprints His glory, how are we not to? We exist to worship our God as part of his work of art. In fact, Paul says in Ephesians 2 that we are His masterpiece. We should worship and give Him glory as such.
