There is nothing like connecting the dots between one thing and another. My wife hates that as I’m watching a TV show I’ll start connecting the dots as if I know everything that’s going to happen. There’s a guy, then there’s a girl, “oh yeah, they are definitely falling in love!” I’ll exclaim, or “Oh no, they are going to kill him in the next scene.” I don’t always get them right, but when there’s a real serious plot twist and I had called it before, I feel like a mastermind. I celebrate it with a well-earned and proud, “I knew it!” To me, there are little things like connecting the dots and seeing how it all plays out.

Sometimes when we read the genealogies of the Bible, they make little sense. They seem like a long list of neverending people who had kids, then had more kids who had kids, and more kids, and so on. Half the time, I’ve never heard the names on the list and I have no idea how to pronounce them either. But the truth is, there’s a story behind all of them and there is a reason why they are there. I’m sure you recognize Adam, Noah, and Abraham, and you can slowly begin to connect the dots between people that you’ve heard before until the book ends with David in 1 Chronicles 29.

At times, we see things at face value and we don’t think that they have anything to teach us or tell us. Most of the time there is a reason why it happens and a reason why they are there, but we only get to see it if we stay long enough to connect the dots. Imagine only reading the Old Testament, but not staying long enough to finish the rest of the conversation. You would miss out on the fulfillment of the promise. My challenge from me to you today is don’t miss out on connecting the dots of your life to the God of your life. Stick around and reflect for you to see God’s hand at the times when you thought He had given up. If you go deep, you’ll start connecting the dots you never even knew were there.
