Jesus’ disciples thought the game was over when they saw Jesus taken to the cross and crucified. They thought, “He was supposed to be the Messiah - the Saviour of our nation and now He has been killed!” They were wrong, because Jesus’ mission was bigger than His disciples knew. Jesus knew that this was not the end.

Coming to the end of something can be hard. It’s very sad when someone comes to the end of their life. They may have been sick or growing older, but because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, it is not the end! We can find comfort in knowing that even though we may no longer be able to see or be with our loved ones here on earth, with Jesus we can have eternal life; life that goes on forever. We can see and be with our loved ones again one day in Heaven.

In the story of the woman in Nain who’s son had died, Jesus had power over death and it was not the end for the young boy. Jesus had the power to raise him to life! the Gospels tell us of other times Jesus showed His power over death; He also raised to life Jarius’ daughter and His friend Lazarus. Of all the people that Jesus rose from the dead, they did eventually die, but Jesus was different. Jesus conquered death when He came alive again after His death on the cross. Jesus’ death and resurrection gives us hope for a life that will never end.
