40 Days of Prayer & FastingSample
Submission
Leviticus 23:27 says to deny yourselves and present special gifts to the Lord. Another version says “You are to hold a sacred assembly and humble your souls and present an offering made by fire to the Lord…” Our fasting is an offering to Him. “Humble” in Hebrew means to weaken oneself, be bowed down, and to become low. The word “souls”(nap̄·šō·ṯê·ḵem) means desire, emotion, passion, seat of the appetites, activity of mind, activity of will, etc. So, what this scripture in Leviticus is telling us, is to weaken our desires and passions, and bow low our wills, minds, and appetites. We make ourselves weak so that He can be strong. It’s teaching us submission.
Read through today’s scriptures and do what they say: examine yourself. Ask the Lord to search your heart and show you where you are lacking faith. Where do you need more of HIM and less of you? Where do you need to be submitted to His ways? Is there any part of you lacking submission?
Prayer: Lord, search me and know me. I submit my ways to You. I trade my appetite for food for an appetite for You, Your will, and Your power. I bow low my desires and submit my mind to You. I humble myself in Your presence and make myself weak so that Your power can be made perfect in me. Your grace is sufficient for me as I offer this fast to You. Show me where I am lacking faith. Show me where I need Your perspective. Teach me your ways, Lord.
About this Plan
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that calls us to deny the desires of our flesh and fill ourselves up with God, His Word, and His presence. Over the next 40 days, we will grow in intimacy with God, position ourselves to be in His perfect will, and learn about His dunamis power in our daily personal encounters.
