2 CorinthiansSample
Paul’s mental health has clearly taken a hit because of his experiences and also because of the report he has received about the church in Corinth. He even discloses that after the suffering experienced in Asia, he and his companions despaired for life itself (2 Corinthians 1:8).
What gives Paul the strength to carry on is his reliance ‘on the God who raises the dead’ (2 Corinthians 1:9). The resurrection of Jesus is what Paul is setting his hope upon. Our other reading for today talks about how perseverance through suffering brings character, and character brings hope. When we choose to persevere our character is developed, and we are able to understand more clearly our hope of resurrection in light of what we are going through.
New Testament scholar NT Wright says, “To trust in the God who raises the dead, with that faith anchored in the resurrection of Jesus himself, is the best therapy anyone could discover, in the first century or the twenty-first”.
How do you need to rely on ‘the God who raises the dead’ today? As you are persevering through that, be encouraged today, your character is growing as you rely on Jesus and you can have hope that one day, whether in this life or when He returns, Jesus will one day make all things new and wipe every tear away (Revelation 21:4).

About this Plan
We are going through the book of 2 Corinthians together! We will be reading one chapter every week as we usually do, but this time we have also included devotions and other passages to read on certain days. We hope you will follow along with us as we deep dive into Paul's second letter to the church in Corinth and seek to see what we can learn from it today as we seek to follow Jesus together.
