2 Corinthians

DAY 31 OF 91

In verse 17, Paul says: “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!”When we choose to believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus, new life is possible! We have the opportunity to become a new creation, here and now in the world, we live in.

When buying a house, often a downpayment is put down. This means that the house is ours, but is not yet in our possession. Paul uses this analogy and says that the Spirit is a “deposit” or “guarantee” of what is to come - our resurrection body. The Spirit animates us to live the new creation life here and now.

In the other passage for today, from Romans 8, Paul also talks of us having the “first fruits” (Romans 8:23) of the Spirit. As we bear the fruit of the Spirit, we reveal ourselves as “children of God” (verse 21) showing the rest of creation that new creation is on the way!

Over the next couple of days, let’s ask ourselves: What might a ‘new creation’ life look like in the world that we live in?

About this Plan

2 Corinthians

We are going through the book of 2 Corinthians together! We will be reading one chapter every week as we usually do, but this time we have also included devotions and other passages to read on certain days. We hope you will follow along with us as we deep dive into Paul's second letter to the church in Corinth and seek to see what we can learn from it today as we seek to follow Jesus together.
