Finding God’s Grace in Our Suffering by Katie Faris

DAY 5 OF 5

Though many of the questions about our daughter’s hypoglycemia have been answered, many other questions my husband and I have about our daughter’s health remain unanswered even today.

God doesn’t promise to answer all our questions or solve our problems or change our circumstances—not that we shouldn’t or can’t ask him to do some of those things. But we can also ask him to undo the crippling effect that perplexities can have on us—our inner selves—and to keep his promise not to let us be swallowed by despair when it towers over us.

We can ask for “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). No matter how our stories unfold, we invite God to change us in them. To work his grace into us. To make us people who love and trust and believe him, people who experience his peace even in suffering.

This is my story: on my hardest days, Jesus has been enough.

This is my song: God’s character and promises are enough to sustain weary believers on their journeys heavenward.

No matter what trial you face, don’t turn away. Stick with Jesus. He will be more than enough for you. But if you have gone astray, and you hear the Lord calling to you, return to him. Your heavenly Father waits to welcome you into his arms. His promise is for you too.

He will be enough.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Make a list of your current challenges, and after each one, write, “He will be enough.”
  2. In prayer, cast each anxiety on your list before the Lord and ask him to be enough for you.
