The Gift That's Freely Given

DAY 4 OF 5

Bethlehem was where the sacrificial lambs for Passover were born and raised. Every year, the spotless, firstborn males would be picked out and taken to Jerusalem, where they were sacrificed for the people’s sins. How fitting that our perfect sacrificial Lamb was born here. No detail was left out of God’s plan. Jesus came to fulfill everything the prophets had proclaimed about Him. He came to be a sacrifice and provide salvation for all, Jews and Gentiles. Luke 2:30-32 says, “for my eyes have seen Your salvation that You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory to Your people Israel.” Jesus is salvation for all people. He alone is the light of the world and the very glory of His people.

From His birth to His death and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled to perfection everything the Father intended Him to fulfill as the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God. He came for a specific purpose and never deterred from it. As a man, Jesus declared these words prophesied in Isaiah 61 about His purpose on earth, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”. Meditate today on how no detail was left out of God’s plan. He prepared and brought into this world the spotless Lamb to be sacrificed for us, bring the Good News of the Gospel to all people, and set the captives free! Praise God, the Light of the world is here with us!
