Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
The Bigger Picture
Joseph, from the Bible, was a man whose life has always astounded me. I once heard a very interesting interpretation on him, at house church. If you look at the events in Joseph’s life, not from a Biblical point of view, but from where Joseph stood, you’ll see it differently. His own brothers threw him into a pit, from where he was pulled up because his brothers decided that it was better to make money off his disappearance rather than let him rot and die in the well. He was then sent to Potiphar’s house, which seemed like an obvious promotion. ‘Ah. God is finally blessing me, and compensating me for all I went through,’ he might have thought. Despite being given a strategic position among all the servants, there was yet another trial waiting for him in the form of Potiphar’s wife, which ultimately got him thrown into jail. And finally, after his sufferings, he saw victory, being made the Prime Minister of Egypt.
I don’t know about you, but if my parents tried to throw me into a pit or sell me, I know I would be fuming with rage. I would probably have fought for my ‘rights’ or asked God why he would let something like this happen to me. When numerous trials come upon us, it’s easy to blame God, and take it personally. But do you know why Joseph came through? Because he didn’t take it personally. He saw the bigger picture.
If you are assured in the knowledge that your God is for you, and not against you, it’s not hard to trust Him. Yes, trials may come our way, but that is just God’s way of preparing us for something so much greater that is in store. He sees what you are going through, and the Bible says He will never let you go through more than you can bear. Thus, take joy in your sufferings, for the ultimate prize awaits you.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for being with me and helping me every step of the way. Thank You for the ultimate prize - the crown of life - that You have promised to those who love You. Create in me a heart that is willing to serve You despite all the trials and tribulations I face. Amen.
