Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
Freedom in Surrender
I once heard an interesting interpretation of grace. Assume there is a long jump track event wherein you need to jump a minimum of 30 meters to qualify. Currently, the world record is 8.99 meters. It obviously isn’t humanly possible to jump that far and qualify. Some may manage eight meters, but all will fall short of 30! And this so lucidly depicts law and grace.
Whether you sin by stealing a pencil, or by committing adultery, sin is sin. There is no scale to measure it. No one has it in them to reach God’s standards of holiness, because anything less than His standard is sin. Under the law, your focus is not on God and what He can do. You’re not free because you’re ensnared in this compulsive trap of trying to overcome sin. This slavery, to fear God’s wrath and the guilt that comes with sin, is something that God did not want for us to experience. He wanted us to come to Him boldly (Hebrews 4:16).
2 Corinthians 3:17 says that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. If you do not find this walk with God redemptive, and you find yourself struggling to please God, you’re not living your Christian life the way He wants you to! When grace came through Jesus’ death on the cross, it was so that we could look to the cross and cry out, ‘Lord, I need You to help me. I can’t do a thing without You. I’m letting go and letting You take over.’ Let your heart run free, assured in the knowledge of His grace and the Holy Spirit in you.
Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for the assurance that You love me and are always there for me. Thank You for this freedom I have in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
