Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
Emerging Victorious
Temptation is a trial or testing of one’s faith, common to men and women throughout the Bible. We see many Biblical heroes like David, Joseph and others being tempted. Satan and his demons stalk the path of all believers, baiting us, to take us away from a fruitful walk with God. They use different ways and means to lure us into going astray.
How do we handle it? Remember that God will never lead us into temptation. If He did, it would go against His nature; He is holy and His desire is for us to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter1:16).
When faced with temptation, we must look to Jesus and emulate Him. Jesus used the Word. We too can overcome temptation by confessing the Word of God, which is living, active and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). It can be used anytime, and in all circumstances. That’s why it’s extremely important to study and meditate on the Word.
Studying the Word and hiding it in our hearts, can keep us from falling into the snares of the evil one. As Psalm 119:11 says, “Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” The more we fill ourselves with the Word, the more we will live and walk according to the Word. And at the time of testing, the Holy Spirit will bring the Word to our remembrance (John 14:26).
So remember, instead of testing God, trust Him and build a closer relationship with Him by spending time with Him on a daily basis and reading His Word. He knows what He’s doing and He who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion till the day of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Father God, please give me a desire to fill myself with Your Word, that I may stand strong in every temptation that comes my way. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
