Opportunity and Obedience
People can make serious mistakes by walking through the open doors of an apparent opportunity without consulting the Lord. Sometimes we presume that since we have taken some steps with God’s blessing, all our steps will receive the same blessing.
Israel’s early victories in Canaan under Joshua’s leadership were won with God’s direction, but they became an occasion of deception for the men of Gibeon, who forged a treaty with Israel under false pretenses (Joshua 9).
Yesterday’s wisdom doesn’t insure that we won’t walk in foolishness today. We must open our hearts to receive God’s teaching and corrections each and every day.
