The Image of God
Jesus is the express image of God. The Greek noun karakter, “image,” was commonly used in the ancient world to describe the figure struck on a coin when minted. By its engraved authenticity and its stamped value, a coin declares its worth and its genuineness. And so it is with Jesus. When we look at Him we are seeing the full worthiness and the true magnificence of God. In Christ, all confusion as to what God is like is cleared up. Jesus is His “express image,” the genuine article.
