The Reason for the Season

DAY 10 OF 10

The Reason for the Season

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

During the holiday season, everyone is busy shopping for gifts, decorating their homes, cooking lavish meals, and visiting friends and loved ones. There is hardly any time left over to contemplate or thank God for the Reason for the Season— that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

In the midst of all the gift-giving, why don’t you give the Lord a gift that will touch his heart this Christmas? Why not pray that he might lead you to a soul with whom you could share the Christmas story? Invite the person to your home and share with them the good news; or invite them to a Christmas program in your church, where the gospel will be preached. The Bible says that there is rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who finds salvation. After all, that is what Christmas is about: The angel told Joseph, “… you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

This holiday season, let’s sing about Jesus, talk about Jesus, and pray for people to receive the most wonderful gift of all—Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Jesus said that it was to his Father’s glory that we might bear much fruit. Winning people to the Lord is one of the ways in which we bear fruit that glorifies God.

One second into eternity, all that will be of value is that we bring another soul with us to heaven. Let’s ask the Lord to open doors for us this holiday season so that we will not only enjoy the festivities and one another’s company but that we might also make God’s heart glad and find fulfillment as we share with others the Reason for the Season!
