[Uniqueness of Christ] Jesus’ Unique Record

DAY 1 OF 3

Listen to Him

We all have a record of our history, whether it be a school transcript, a driving record, a birth certificate, a health record, or the like. Each of these records points to unique events that molded us into who we are today.

In the Scriptures, we find a unique record of Jesus—the facts and events that make Him unique and reveal His person, purpose, power and promises to us.

No one else in history has a record like Jesus’. No other person can declare the things He said or do the things He did. That makes His record unique.

One of the unique events recorded in Scripture is the Transfiguration.Transfiguration means to change one’s shape or appearance. Three of Jesus’ disciples—Peter, John, and James—witnessed Jesus change His appearance.

That day, they accompanied Jesus up a high mountain. Once there, Jesus revealed His glory before them. The Scripture says that His face shone “like the sun.” They also saw Moses and Elijah having a conversation with Him.

Though they were the two most important prophets in Scripture, God only mentioned Jesus as His beloved Son and gave Him a unique position by saying: “Listen to Him.”

God directed all their attention to Jesus, implying He was the Messiah. The disciples fell facedown to the ground in fear. When Jesus touched them and spoke, they turned and saw Him alone. Jesus asked them not to tell anyone what they had just witnessed—the revelation of who Jesus really was.

They had walked with Him and witnessed the miracles He did, but the Transfiguration confirmed that He was God in their midst—the One who would save the world from sin.

The Jews of the time expected a political deliverer, but Jesus had a greater purpose. He sought to free their souls from slavery to sin and to show them the way to God, in Whom they could enjoy eternal, and not just temporary, fulfillment.

There is no one like Jesus. It is Him, and Him alone, Who can bring the lost back to God.

Jesus, thank You for showing us Your glory. We recognize the special and unique position God has given You. I want to listen to You and obey You. Please, remove the things that hinder me so that I can do it.
